    The winners were found!

    KSEPC finalized the contest amongst the journalists which was announced in October 2010. The main idea of that event was to encourage the journalists to write or develop materials on budget transparency and report.

    By the results of the contest KSEPC conducted the Round Table on March 25, 2011 and related to:

    i) introduction with the results of the study on financial literacy for journalists supported by CIPE;

    ii) introduction with the Manual of Financial Themes in Media within the frame of the CIPE supported project;

    iii) introduction with results of International Forum held in Istanbul;

    iv) introduction with the results of the national contest on The budget is people’s money supported by Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation and awarding the contest winners.

    v) introduction with Glossary of Budget Terminologies in Media.

    More than 50 people participated at the awarding ceremony and round table, who represented different local information agencies as Kyrgyz National Agency “Kabar”, “Reuters”, “24kg”, “KyrTag”, “Barakelde”; newspapers as “Erkin-Too”, “Argumenty i Facty”, “Vecherny Bishkek”, “Chuiskiye Izvestiya”, “MSN”, “Slovo Kyrgyzstana”, “Finansist”, “Kyrgyz Tuusu”, “Tenir-Too”, “Jany Agym”, “The Times of Central Asia”, TV and radio companies as “NTS”, “NBT”, “Naryn TV”, “National Radio” and “NTRC”; representatives of Soros-Kyrgyzstan Foundation, local universities and NGOs.

    Within the frame of that contest KSEPC received 257 materials, among of which a big amount of materials were written in Kyrgyz and presented print media in Kyrgyz and Russian languages, internet and broadcast media.

    In accordance with the decision of jury the following journalists received the best recognition, and among them there were journalists who received promotional prizes: Melis Sovet uulu, journalist of the newspaper “Agym”; Saltanat Kudaiberdieva, reporter of TV “NTS”; Tatiana Orlova, reporter of IA “24kg”; Tynaliev Myrzakat, journalist of the newspaper “Kyrgyz Tuusu”; Meerim Mambetova, reporter of TV “NBT”; Kumondor Usuptegin, reporter of the website in Kyrgyz language “Barakelde” (Naryn Oblast); Iren Saakyan, journalist of the newspaper “Vecherniy Bishkek”; Esenalieva Klara, journalist of the newspaper “Tenir-Too" (Naryn Oblast), Maxim Tsoi, journalist of the newspaper “Vecherniy Bishkek”; Burulay Pusurmankulova, reporter of the NTVRC (TV); Janybaeva Anarhan, a freelance journalist (Jalal-Abad Oblast); Abilov Abdimuhtar, journalist of the newspaper “Erkin-Too”; Zirek Asanova, journalist of the newspaper “Akiykat” (Jalal-Abad Oblast); Luneva Galina, journalist of the newspaper “Slovo Kyrgyzstana”; Meshkova Elena, journalist of specialized newspaper “Finansist”; Atyrkul Baiterekova, reporter of “Naryn TV”; Mirzhan Balybaev, special reporter of NTS (TV); Rosa Bekturova, freelance journalist; Nurdin Motuev, reporter of NTVRC (TV); Elmira Naskeeva, reporter of Radio Kabarlar; Ksenia Koleno, reporter of NBT (TV).

    Special Certificate of Appreciation was given to Batyr Mamyrkulov, TV NBT Editor for his contribution to the economic journalism development in Kyrgyzstan. Indeed, TV channel NBT always actively participates at the events arranged by KSEPC.

    All contest materials were considered by the jury comprising: Pavlovich Ludmila, freelance journalists and head of the Press Centre of Kyrgyz Patent National Agency; Gaibulina Roza, Director of Alliance for Transparent Budget; Rahanov Nurlan, Deputy Chief of the Interstate relations of the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyz Republic; Isabaeva Syrga, Administrator of the Budget transparency and accountability program supported by “Soros-Kyrgyzstan” Foundation; Simonova Nellie, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of KSEPC; Tolubaev Aibek, Director of KSEPC.

    All materials were evaluated by codes without any names by the following criteria: i) quantity of materials; ii) relevance to the topic; iii) coherence; iv) continuity (tracking threads); v) content with analysis; vi) amount of peer reviews; vii) simplicity of the contest and its accessibility for the reader.

    By the words of KSEPC Public President Nadezhda Dobretsova that contest was arranged with the aim of making the first step for establishing a National Prize for economic journalism in Kyrgyzstan. “We see that nowadays the interest of journalists on economic journalism growth. I can’t say that this was our merit totally. But with support of our main donor partner CIPE we made a good contribution into the development and strengthening of understanding the economic journalism in Kyrgyzstan. Certainly, we’ll continue to work in this direction” – said Nadezhda Dobretsova.

    It was agreed that the best press articles would be placed at KSEPC website. Roughly counting about 20 materials should be scanned and out as publications in “Economic for All” page of the website.
