BISHKEK – The Kyrgyz parliament October 20 approved a larger budget than it had envisioned at the beginning of the year, Deputy Finance Minister and Director of the Central Treasury Meder Temirbekov said.
The revised 2011 budget is 68.3 billion KGS (US $1.5 billion), 1.4 billion KGS (US $31m) larger than the original figure. The government’s war on corruption allowed it to collect more revenues than expected, Temirbekov said, adding it also had to spend more on the coming presidential election and with the start of heating season.
